In Thailand, Scania first started with trucks in 1986 via an importor called Forefront (Thailand) Co., Ltd. In 2000 Scania Siam Co., Ltd., was established, wholly-owned subsidiary of Scania Sweden. In 2002 Scania invested in a local assembly facility in Chacheongsao which uses separate lines for trucks and buses. In 2009 has invested in a new headquarter in Samutprakarn, located on a 16 rai area, it has been operated as sale office and aftersales one-stop service centre as well.

Investment in public transport is on the rise as cities around the world seek sustainable solutions to often urgent traffic problems. To date, Scania has delivered about 2,000 vehicles to bus rapid transit (BRT) systems in Australia, Mexico, South America, South Africa and elsewhere. Such systems will also be launched in Europe, says Melker Jernberg.

“This is bound to happen. But we need to influence urban planners and other decision makers so they understand the importance of sustainable transport systems.” Among Scania’s products are buses and coaches powered by biodiesel, bioethanol and biogas.

These were applied to locate all English language studies relevant to the aetiology, diagnosis, severity staging, investigation, prognosis, complications, or treatment of chronic cough in adults over 16 years. At a subsequent meeting of the Guideline Group these documents were presented, discussed, and recommendations agreed upon. The search engines recommended were Medline (1966 onwards), EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library database. Consensus was obtained on these points and members of the Guideline Group were allocated to one of three subgroups concerned with acute cough, chronic cough, or specialist cough clinics. These three clinical areas were further divided into sections and individuals were identified to conduct an independent literature search for each of these and to produce a discussion document based on their literature appraisal. So far, demand for alternative fuel vehicles has been weak outside Sweden, but in November 2010 a breakthrough occurred when Scania received an order from Brazil for 50 ethanol buses. Jernberg predicts that buses and coaches will be better equipped to meet the comfort needs of customers. This includes long-distance coaches where passengers have access to fully reclining seats, catered food, broadband and big-screen film showings. “Quality time instead of idle time make coaches more attractive, and thus a more competitive alternative,” he says.
